Day One

Morning (9am to 12pm):

  • Introduction- Basic Physics
  • Right parasternal views (5 chambers, 4 chambers, right parasternal long axis oblique pulmonary artery, short axis LA:AO, short axis PA:AO, short axis high basilar)

Afternoon (1pm to 5pm): “How to obtain and interpret Doppler signals”

Day Two

Morning (9am to 12pm):

  • Discussion on M-mode advantages and disadvantages
  • M-mode measurement of the left ventricle and atrium
  • Left parasternal views: apical (caudal) views, cranial views

Afternoon (1pm to 5pm) : “Findings in the most common acquired heart diseases in dogs and cats”

Day Three

Morning (9am to 12pm):

  • Practical scanning- right parasternal views

Afternoon (1pm to 5pm):

  • Practical scanning- left parasternal views

About Dr. Anna Tidholm

dr anna tidholmDr. Anna Tidholm is Associate Professor (docent), Diplomate ECVIM (cardiology) and has worked as Staff Veterinarian at Anicura Albano Animal Hospital since 1986, which employs 54 veterinarians, 150 nurses and receives approximately 35,000 patients a year out of which some 1300 are cardiac patients.

A prolific contributor to the study of cardiology, Dr. Tidholm has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology since 2013 and has reviewed for Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Journal of Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound, Journal of Veterinary Medicine, amongst others, and has undertaken a wide range of assignments as member of the Swedish Veterinary Association and Swedish Veterinary Society, including the position of chairperson of the Committee for Advanced Veterinary Specialization since 2004.

Lecturing to year 4 students at the College of Veterinary Studies, University of Agriculture Uppsala, Dr. Tidholm is the main supervisor on an EEF-project entitled “Echocardiographic measurements in Rhodesian Ridgebacks” and co-supervisor for the EEF-project “Concentrations of troponin I in cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy”, whilst also supervising master and PhD degree projects ongoing. As a Hjalmar Håkansson Foundation award recipient (1994) and the first female recipient since 1898 of the Peter Hernquist gold medal in 2010, Dr. Tidholm was recognized by the Swedish Veterinary Magazine in 2013 as Veterinarian of the Year.
